Shamcey Supsup clears MUPH controversy

Miss Universe Philippines National Director Shamcey Supsup recently provided clarity as to what transpired after the announcement of the Top 10 finalists of the recently concluded Miss Universe Philippines pageant.

Shamcey related that following the announcement, the results were submitted to the board of MUPH for record-keeping purposes.

However, as she carefully examined the figures, her attention was drawn to the “highly improbable nature of the numbers.”

She related: “This gave rise to concerns that the integrity of the results may have been compromised.”

“In order to ensure absolute fairness and transparency, the board made the decision to initiate a manual counting of the judges’ votes. This meticulous process was conducted with the utmost diligence and in the presence of the accounting firm. As a result, it became evident that there were discrepancies in the initial top 10 results,” Shamcey continued.

“Thus, a decision was made to allow all 18 candidates to compete in the evening gown portion of the competition.”

She reasoned, “Our primary objective as an organization is to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of the pageant. We believe in providing equal opportunities for all candidates and to do what is right no matter the consequences.”

The beauty queen told supporters, “We deeply appreciate your understanding and unwavering belief in our organization. Your trust means the world to us, and we are determined to honor that trust by continuing to navigate this situation with grace and integrity. Thank you for your continued support, and please know that we value your presence on this incredible journey.”

On her Instagram story, Shamcey also noted that she loved how Math is an “exact discipline where the truth is indisputable.”

She noted: “No one can argue that the equation 1+1=2. That is why Math continues to be one of my favorite subjects to this day.”

The architect and entrepreneur related: “12 judges x 10 votes = 120 total votes. Pano po naging 106 total votes? Any gradeschooler would have noticed.”

Recall that during the final night last May 13, many fans were surprised after Pampanga’s Angelique Manto made it to the Top 5 despite her not being named among the Top 10.

Note that representatives from Agusan Del Norte, Bohol, Pampanga, Eastern Samar, Makati City, Parañaque, Tiaong Quezon, Sorsogon, Mandaluyong, Bacolod, Cebu Province, Marinduque, Zambales, Cavite, Davao Oriental, Baguio, Isabela, and Bulacan were announced as the Top 18 finalists.

Then Top 10 were delegates from Makati City, Bohol, Davao Oriental, Baguio, Zambales, Bacolod, Agusan Del Norte, Sorsogon, Eastern Samar, and Cavite.

After the announcement, the host later revealed that the Top 18 will compete for a spot in the Top 5, which had to be determined manually due to “technical difficulties.”

In the end, Makati’s Michelle Marquez was crowned as the new Miss Universe Philippines while Pauline Amelinckx of Bohol and Krishnah Gravidez of Baguio were named Miss Supranational Philippines and Miss Charm Philippines, respectively.

Zambales’ Christine Juliane Opiaza and Pampanga’s Angelique Manto, on the other hand, were hailed as 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up. — Stephanie Bernardino
