Effectivity of an innovative zinc-enhanced cough medicine

Top and trusted Philippine pharmaceutical company, Unilab Inc., has proven that its latest product, Solmux Advance Suspension, is a potent cough medicine given its double Zinc formulation, which effectively combats cough with phlegm together.

Solmux Advance Suspension is part of Unilab Consumer Health Group’s (ULCH) Solmux line of over-the-counter cough medicines, which also includes Carbocisteine Solmux and Carbocisteine + Zinc Solmux Advance Capsule.

Leevan Fong, brand manager of the Solmux line, shared, “Our studies have shown that the combination of Carbocisteine and Zinc is highly effective in treating cough with phlegm. This motivated us to introduce Solmux Advance, the first cough medicine in the country, and potentially the world, fortified with Zinc.”

Medical affairs oversee the clinical studies team responsible for conducting these research studies.

Based on an independent observational study, the combination of 500 mg Carbocisteine and 5 mg Zinc in Solmux Advance Capsule has been proven to reduce cough symptoms within three days and achieve resolution in just 5.52 days.

Carbocisteine works by reducing the thickness and stickiness of phlegm, making it easier to cough up and expel, while Zinc plays a crucial role in the highly proliferating cells of the human body, particularly the immune system.

The new variant, Solmux Advance Suspension, contains 27.44 mg of Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate per 60-ml bottle. This means that each 10-ml dose of Solmux Advance Suspension provides a potent combination of approximately 500 mg of Carbocisteine and 10 mg of Zinc.
