Fried chicken is undeniably one of the best comfort foods available. Its versatility allows for various presentations — as a kiddie meal paired with spaghetti for children or as bar chow to pair with your beer. The options are endless. In fact, most of us would have a go-to recipe when we like to make classic fried chicken.
Alternatively, for those feeling lazy, reliable fast-food chains always offer buckets of fried chicken at affordable prices.
But what about combining a Filipino staple with this comfort food?
Yes, such a culinary creation exists and is a fantastic addition to your collection of fried chicken recipes. This recipe is incredibly quick and easy, guaranteed to be a hit with the entire family.
Ingredients:
2 kilos chicken wings or your choice of chicken parts
Salt and pepper
2 packs of sinigang original mix or your preferred sinigang mix
Potato starch or your preferred flour and breading mix
Procedure:
1. Wash and pat dry your chicken. If using other chicken parts, make a slit to ensure it will cook well. Season with salt and pepper. T
2. To that, coat the chicken pieces with the sinigang mix and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
3. In a pan, heat oil until hot.
4. Dredge the chicken with potato starch and shake excess.
5. Deep fry for 10 minutes (or longer for bigger parts) and drain excess oil.
6. Rest for a couple of minutes prior to serving.
7. Serve with condiments as preferred.
Note: For a crispier texture, you may opt to double fry.
Makes 4 to 5 servings.
