A bold move to rekindle cinema magic

Joey de Guzman, a young director with a background spanning New Zealand and the Philippines, is shouldering a significant role as one of the directors of  Shake, Rattle & Roll: Extreme.

Despite the film’s primary objective of luring moviegoers back into the cinema, De Guzman remarkably maintains his composure and reveals his insights during an exclusive interview with  Manila Standard Entertainment  at the cast reveal event for the movie.

Acknowledging the already established reputation of the  Shake, Rattle & Roll  franchise, De Guzman concedes that the real pressure arrived when they decided to append “Extreme” to the title, signifying their intention to push the boundaries of horror.

He mentions infusing the film with elements of violence and gore, making “extreme” the centerpiece of their endeavor. De Guzman emphasizes that they strove to live up to the term “extreme” within the accepted constraints.

“The franchise, given its legacy, already has a reputation. The only pressure came when they added ‘extreme’ to the title because we wanted to live up to the expectations,” De Guzman said.
