A magnitude 5.0 earthquake took place on Friday morning in Batangas province, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs director Teresito “Toto” Bacolcol said the tremor happened around 8:24 a.m. some five kilometers southwest of Calaca, also in the same province.
Tectonic in origin, the quake has a depth of focus of 14kms, Bacolcol said.
Meanwhile, Intensity 2 was recorded in Talisay and Rosario, Batangas; Magallanes, Cavite; Boac, Marinduque; Las Pinas City and Pasay City, Metro Manila; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Mauban, Polillo and Gumaca, Quezon; Taytay and Antipolo, Rizal while Intensity 1 in Dinalupihan, Bataan; Malvar, Batangas; Malolos City and Guiguinto, Bulacan; Ternate, Cavite; San Pablo, Laguna; Malabon City, Pateros, San Juan City and Paranaque City, Metro Manila; Abra De Ilog and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro; Lucban, Lucena City and Alabat, Quezon; and Tanay, Rizal.
Bacolcol said both damage to infrastructure and aftershocks are expected from the latest earthquake.
