Former University of the Philippines standout Zavier Lucero has signed a two-year pact with NorthPort.
Lucero’s agent Marvin Espiritu has confirmed the deal, nearly three weeks after the 6-foot-6 big man was selected fifth overall by NorthPort in the 2023 PBA Rookie Draft.
“Yes, Zav has signed for two years with NorthPort,” Espiritu told the Manila Times on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Lucero though won’t be able to see action yet in the Commissioner’s Cup, which will kick off the PBA’s Season 48 as he continues to recover from an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear in his knee he sustained in Game Two of the UAAP Season 85 Finals against eventual champion Ateneo.
In his final game with UP last December, Lucero, injured and all, was inserted in Game 3 with 0.7 seconds left to shoot two free throws in a symbolic gesture.
Lucero’s final season with the Fighting Maroons saw him average 11.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
