VIRAL: Why videographer left after groom killed snake

A wedding videographer’s post has gone viral on X (formerly called Twitter) after he shared that he walked out on a wedding and decided not to give the videos to the newlywed couple. This decision came after the groom allegedly killed a snake during the reception.

X user Ben Jan (@benjahan), shared his experience during the outdoor reception on Oct. 22, 2023 which led him to withhold the videos. He wrote, “I walked out of this wedding reception kanina because the groom caught a snake they found in the area (it was outdoors) then SMASHED ITS HEAD!” adding, “And the bride clapped and probably thought it made him look good and manly…”

In his X post, he attached a conversation where someone was trying to find him and ask for a copy of the video. Following his tweet, netizens had mixed reactions. Some called the videographer unprofessional, while others agreed with his decision.

One X user commented, “Unprofessional, dapat you set aside your feelings kasi paid ka. Pwede mo release ang galit mo after. Work kasi ‘yan, so next time if may mangyari sa event na ‘di mo bet pwede mo iwan ang client anytime? Sino pa mag-hire sayo?” Another user questioned, “They could have just released it somewhere far away from the reception, bakit kailangan patayin?”

Besides the backlash he received, the videographer further explained his side, stating, “I don’t expect any of you to agree with me or to be on my side when I tweeted this. I’m at peace with what I did and I wish the couple nothing but the wrath of the engkantos that they angered by their dumb actions. Like legit.”

Netizens criticized the videographer for being unprofessional and overacting. Some said it breached the contract, while others believed the groom’s reaction was natural in a dangerous situation, known as the “fight-or-flight response.” The tweet now has 4 million views and 726 comments. — Alex Salva Quiño
