Asian Para Games medalists set to receive incentives

FILIPINO medal winners in the recently concluded 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, are set to receive cash incentives from the government.

This is part of their benefits under Republic Act 10699, also known as the “National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.”

According to the law, athletes who seized gold medals in the Asian Para Games shall receive P1 million.

As for the silver and bronze medalists in Hangzhou, they will receive P500,000 and P200,000, respectively.

Athletes, who medaled in team events with less than five participants per team, will receive the same cash incentives for individual medal winners.

Having won three golds in chess, one from individual and two from team events, Menandro Redor, the most bemedaled Filipino athlete in Hangzhou, is set to receive a huge amount of bonus.

Menandro and the entire Philippine chess team racked up eight gold medals to banner the country’s 10-gold haul and 29-medal overall production, good for a ninth place finish.

The other two gold medals came from Paralympians Ernie Gawilan and Jerrold Mangliwan.

Swimmer Gawilan will receive P1 million for his men’s 400-meter (m) freestyle S7 conquest, while wheelchair racer Mangliwan is set to receive the same amount for ruling the men’s 400-m T52 event.

Gawilan will receive P200,00 more for his bronze medal finish in the 200-m individual medley SM7 event, as Mangliwan will also receive an additional P500,000 for his silver in the 100-m race.

The other Filipino gold medalists are Cheyzer Mendoza, Henry Lopez, Darry Bernardo, Arman Subaste, Sander Severino and Jasper Rom — all of them winning an event in chess either in individual or team events.
