GABRIELA urges Filipino women to ‘rise with women, people’ of Palestine

Women’s alliance GABRIELA and One Billion Rising Philippines spearheaded the launch of “One Billion Rising 2024: Rise for Freedom” as part of their drive to fight against sexual exploitation, physical and domestic abuse, discrimination, inequality, repression, and “all other forms of violence against women.”

In observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW), GABRIELA on Saturday, Nov. 25, held the launching at Plaza Sta. Cruz grounds in Manila.

GABRIELA said it offers the launching of OBR Philippines 2024 to Palestinian women and the groups of women around the globe “crying for freedom.”

“Every minute, women around the globe experience various forms of violence,” said GABRIELA.

“Today, the center of the most horrific crimes against women and their children is none other than Palestine, with Palestinian women and children constituting 70% of the 11,000+ deaths from US-backed Israel’s bombings,” it added.

The OBR PH 2024 also featured prominent women, LGBTQ+, indigenous peoples (IP), and environment and children’s rights advocates.

“Today, we likewise bring to light the plight of Filipino women, especially those in the countryside and in peasant and indigenous communities, whose experience of rural bombings, militarization, and abuses by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and US agents mirrors that of Palestinian women whose lands are devastated and occupied by Israeli forces with the backing of the United States,” GABRIELA Secretary General Clarice Palce said.

GABRIELA also presented toy cubes with colors of the Palestinian flag carrying the dreams for the future generations of Palestinian people. — Lizst Torres Abello
