Gilas Women  top Malaysia for silver medal finish

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia: The Gilas Pilipinas women’s basketball team defeated Malaysia, 77-63, to take home a silver medal in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at the Elephant Hall on Monday, May 15.

Gilas finished with the second-best record of 5-1 as the Filipino dribblers relinquished their crown to Indonesia which got the gold with a 6-0 slate.

Janine Pontejos led the Filipinas with 24 points while Khate Castillo scored 18 markers.

Camille Clarin chipped in nine points, Afril Bernardino had seven and Jack Animam posted six.

Philippines 77 – Pontejos 24, Castillo 18, Clarin 9, Bernardino 7, Cabinbin 6, Animam 6, Berberabe 4, Fajardo 3, Castro 0, Guytingco 0, Tongco 0

Malaysia 63 – Pang 15, Chong 10, Foo 6, Saw 6, Yap 6, Tan 5, Low 5, Chia 3, Ooi 3, Lee 2, Rajintiran 2, Yaakob 0.
