Negros Oriental Gov. Carlo ‘Guido’ Reyes, who succeeded Roel Degamo, passes away

BACOLOD CITY – Negros Oriental Gov. Carlo Jorge Joan “Guido” Reyes passed away on Wednesday morning, May 31.

Vice Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria assumed the post of Reyes in the afternoon, hours after he passed away.

Karen Lisette Molas, provincial administrator, confirmed Reyes’ death through the Facebook account of the provincial government.

Molas said she was informed by Guihulngan City Vice Mayor Eunica Reyes through a phone call about the governor’s death.

The 62-year-old Reyes died of a terminal illness in a hospital in Metro Manila.

However, Molas said that she has not been authorized by his family to disclose any other details on the circumstances of his illness and death.

Sagarbarria took his oath as governor before Negros Oriental Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Gerardo Paguio.

Sagarbarria became vice governor after Reyes succeeded Gov. Roel Degamo who was killed in his residence in Pamplona, Negros Oriental on March 4.

Reyes was elected vice governor in the May 2022 elections where he ran alongside Degamo.
