When the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) reopened its doors as the world began to arise from the pandemic, its return was definitely better than ever. After its declaration as a National Cultural Treasure in 2022, it successfully reemerged into a hub of activity with exciting events that continuously provide everyone something to look forward to and, therefore, gather people together again.

Indeed, the first quarter of 2023 has already seen high-profile government events, musical performances, creative industry summits, exhibitions and conferences.

Musical performances reigned during the love month with concerts headlined by the APO’s Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo and the Philippine Madrigal Singers. Jampacked fan meets of Korean superstars such as B.I. (March) and Lee Jong Suk (April) followed with a bang, as well as the Department of Trade Industry’s Creative Industries Summit and the week-long “Likha” exhibit, which gathered 57 weavers from all over the country who showcased more than 30 weaves and surface decorations on textile.

Scientists, researchers, and physicians also convened at the PICC during the first quarter for the Indie-Sciyencya Awarding Ceremonies, the 2023 Annual Scientific Conference and 90th General Membership Assembly of the National Research Council of the Philippines, and the 62nd Annual Convention of the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians.

And as the PICC steadily prepares for a new series of exciting events it promises that “there is more to come,” while proudly claiming that it maintains its lead as the venue of choice in Metro Manila. The Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector is back with a bang, with organizers of various events reaching out to the PICC for a revenge return to in-person events.

Renowned local professional associations, such as the Philippine College of Physicians, the Philippine Pediatric Society and the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, are set to hold annual conventions at the Pasay City venue. International conferences and meetings of prestigious organizations are likewise slated to take place at the PICC in the second half of 2023.

Amid these developments, PICC General Manager Renato Padilla expressed his optimism for the continued influx of events at the center, stating, “While we have seen the value of virtual and hybrid events during the pandemic, the return of face-to-face events signifies that people are eager to come together to connect, collaborate and celebrate. The PICC is delighted to host our clients once again.”

To be sure, the PICC is emerging as a versatile and category-defying venue where the traditional meets the modern and local events merge with top-caliber international events. From festivals, concerts, trade fairs and exhibitions to fan meets of Korean superstars such as B.I. and Lee Jong Suk, the PICC certainly has something for everyone.

As the saying goes, “Setting is everything,” and the PICC of the revenge era promises no better place to experience premier events than within its historical edifice.
