The CBCP said, Bishop Cortes has decreed that the faithful should not raise or hold hands while reciting or singing the Lord’s Prayer during the holy mass.
The Church leader instead instructed churchgoers “to join his or her own hands while the priest extends his hands in prayer.”
The mandate, announced June 16, was aimed to address confusion among the faithful concerning the proper hand posture while singing the Ama Namin.
“This will ensure clarity and uniformity of hand gesture among the faithful participating in the Holy Mass,” Bishop Cortes said in his decree which was effective immediately.
The prelate asked the faithful for their prayers and continued support.
