Arjo Atayde, family formally ask Maine Mendoza’s parents for hand in marriage

THE wedding of celebrity couple Arjo Atayde and Maine Mendoza is just around the corner after Atayde’s mother, veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez, posted clips of their family’s “pamamanhikan” to Mendoza’s family.

Pamamanhikan is the Filipino tradition of a man and his family visiting his future bride’s family in order to ask for her hand in marriage.

Through an Instagram post late Monday, Sanchez said the momentous occasion was held on June 25 at the “Casa Mendoza” in Bulacan.

Both sides of the family were in full attendance. Aside from Sanchez, seen are her husband Art with children Ria, Gela and Xavi; Mendoza’s parents Teodoro “Teddy” and Mary Ann, her siblings as well as the couple’s grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

In a heartwarming caption, Sanchez wrote, “The Ataydes and Mendozas will soon merge as one family. Excited (dancing emojis). #family #happiness #thankuLord.”

Ria, on the other hand, reposted the photos on her Instagram story sharing how she is happy for the soon-to-be married couple, “But I mean, would it be a proper introduction if we weren’t the entire Barangay Atayde? A first for our little barangay.”

Mendoza, 28, and Atayde, 32, have not yet released additional details on the date and place of their wedding.

The two confirmed that they are indeed a couple on Dec. 21, 2019, which also marked their first anniversary. Atayde proposed to Mendoza July 28, 2022.
