Family first for Adamson’s Trisha Tubu

AFTER an impressive rookie campaign, Trisha Tubu was primed for at least two more explosive playing years for Adamson in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

Tubu, who gained a “super rookie” title for her superb showing last Season 85, had to cut her collegiate career short as she turned professional and joined the Farm Fresh Foxies in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

Tubu, who will turn 23 years old this October, said that she needs to turn pro immediately so she can attend to the financial and medical needs of his ailing dad.

“My decision to turn pro is not about me or whoever you think. This is for my father in Tarlac who badly needs a pacemaker because he’s gone through multiple operations due to strokes,” said Tubu in Filipino as posted by Farm Fresh on its social media pages on Friday, June 23.

“I really need a huge amount of money. He sacrificed a lot for me before and now is my time to give back. I don’t want to do it (sacrifice) when it’s already too late.”

In the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Tubu accumulated 203 points built on 176 spikes, 21 blocks and eight aces in the elimination round. The 5-foot-9 volleybelle ranked fourth in the Best Opposite Spiker race and 14th in the Most Valuable Player rankings.

Tubu is joined by her Adamson teammates Kate Santiago, Cykle Tagsip and Cae Lazo in Farm Fresh which banners the core of the NCAA’s back-to-back champions Saint Benilde Blazers.

Led by coach Jerry Yee, the Foxies begin their Invitational Conference campaign against the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers on June 27 at the FilOil EcoOil Center.
