McCarthy drops 30 as Blackwater noses out Converge

Blackwater pulled away late in the game and relied on Rashawn McCarthy’s game-long brilliance to outlast Converge, 102-97, in their PBA On Tour preseason match on Wednesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The sweet-shooting McCarthy scored five of the Bossing’s critical 7-2 run that gave them a 100-89 cushion, enough to weather the FiberXers’ late fightback.

McCarthy went on to finish with a team-high 30 points as the Bossing hiked their record to 3-2, bouncing back from their 95-112 beating at the hands of the NorthPort Batang Pier last week.

Guards Rey Suerte and Baser Amer chipped in 12 points each for Blackwater, which did not field veterans JVee Casio and forward Troy Rosario.

The loss dropped Converge to 1-3, while putting to waste big man Justin Arana’s solid double-double effort of 32 points and 17 rebounds.

Alec Stockton scored 15 points and issued five assists for Converge, which played without forward Jeron Teng, Adrian Wong, Aljun Melecio, and Kris Porter.
