Yulo to focus on World Championships after successful Asian Championships stint

Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo will now focus on the upcoming 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in September.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the 23-year-old artistic gymnast, fresh off five medals (three gold, one silver, one bronze) from the 2023 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Singapore, said there is still a lot of room for improvement.

“Another successful competition — qualified for the world championships and we’re just getting started. Still lots of room for improvement, just taking it one step at a time,” he wrote.

“There were many challenges prior and during the competition but I managed to get back on track and perform in my best condition!” he added.]

The upcoming 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which will be held on September 30 to October 8 in Antwerp, Belgium, is considered the “largest qualifier” for next year’s Olympic Games in Paris, France.

As a result of Yulo’s participation in the upcoming Olympic qualifiers, he will miss the rescheduled 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, whose opening ceremony will take place one week before the World Championships in Belgium. He did participate in the Southeast Asian Games earlier in May, where he won four medals (two gold, two silver).
