A man was found fatally shot inside the stairwell of a residential building in Rexdale late Sunday, Toronto police say.

Officers were called to a building at 101 Kendleton Dr., in the area of Kipling Avenue and Albion Road, at around 10:35 p.m., police said on Monday.

They found the man suffering from gunshot wounds in a stairwell of the brown brick apartment building. The victim was pronounced dead on scene.

The homicide unit has taken over the investigation. The man is the city’s 31st homicide victim of the year.

There’s been no word on the age of the victim.

No further information about the victim or possible suspects was available on Monday.

Cont. Cindy Chung, spokesperson for the Toronto police, said the investigation is in its early stages.

Police are reviewing security camera video, she added. The subsidized housing building has security cameras fixed on the exit of the stairwell

“Officers are looking at everything,” she said.

Investigators are hoping any potential witnesses come forward with information to help them piece together what happened.
