Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is the leading potential senatorial candidate for the 2025 elections, based on the results of a survey released by big data research firm Tangere on Friday, Aug. 11.

Duterte received 61 percent voter support in a mobile-based survey conducted from Aug. 2 to 4.

He was followed by ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo, former Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, and former Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, with 58 percent, 52 percent, and 47 percent of the voter preferences, respectively.

Tangere pointed out that Tulfo, Sotto, and Domagoso were the top three bets in the June 2023 survey.

“Former President Duterte gained majority support across demographics and areas, though he is leveraging on the support of his bailiwick in Mindanao to make up for any potential losses in South Luzon/Bicol,” it explained.

“Half of those within the Top 12 are senate re-electionists led by Senator Bong Go (46 percent), followed closely by Senator Imee Marcos (46 percent), Senator Pia Cayetano 40 percent), Senator Lito Lapid (37 percent), Senator Francis Tolentino (37 percent), and Senator Ronald Dela Rosa (35 percent),” Tangere said.

Other names in the “Magic 12” were Dr. Willie Ong (41 percent), former Senator Manny Pacquiao (37 percent), and former Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson (35 percent).

The 2025 Tangere Senate Survey was administered using a mobile-based respondent application with a sample size of 1,800 respondents.

The respondents proportionately represented the following areas nationwide: 12 percent from Metro Manila, 23 percent from Northern and Central Luzon, 22 percent from Southern Luzon (including Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol), 20 percent from the Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
