IM Concio rules GMG online chess tournament

International Master Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmariñas City reigned supreme in the 20th GMG Chess Online Blitz Tournament held last week via the lichess.com virtual platform.

A consistent winner in online weekly chess tournaments, Concio tallied 77 Arena points to rule the online tournament with a three minutes play to finish format.

Concio is a member of the star-studded Dasmariñas Chess Academy team backed by Mayor Jenny Barzaga, Rep. Elpidio “Pidi” Barzaga Jr. and national coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas.

Chester Neil Reyes of Rodriguez, Rizal placed second with 69 Arena points followed by Anatoly Pascua of Manila and National Master Mark Jay Bacojo of Dasmariñas City who scored 53 Arena points each.

Also finishing in the top 15 of the tournament sponsored by Thailand based coach National Master Gerald Ferriol were Cyril Telesforo of Iloilo City, Christian Mendoza of Antipolo City, National Master Julius Gonzales of Marikina City, Lee Roi Palma of Manila, Nguyễn Anh Huy of Vietnam, Fide Master Noel Dela Cruz of Makati City, National Master Jake Dela Cruz of Cabanatuan City, Vladimir Gonzales of Los Baños, Carl Daluz of Sorsogon City, Junmark Baldesimo of Davao City, and Fide Master Christian Mark Daluz of Sorsogon City, in this order.

Awards were also given to National Master Jonathan Tan as the top senior player, Vladimir Gonzales as the top player with disability, Rohanisah Buto as the top female player, Sumer Justin Oncita as the best placed under-16 player and Vincent Brimbuela as the top GMG/chess sharer.
