Doncic gave away his game-worn shoes and the MVP of the Game trophy to some lucky fans after Slovenia won its final game in the World Cup against Italy, 89-85, at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The Dallas Mavericks star, who have been appreciative of the love and support of Filipinos, threw his shoes on the stands while the trophy went to the family of former La Salle star Prince Rivero who caught the attention of Doncic after holding a sign that says ‘Luka, I was named after you’, referring to his son.

It was not the first time Doncic tried to give back to his avid supporters even in the simplest way as he also made himself available before games to interact with fans from the stands and sign their shirts, shoes, jerseys and other memorabilia.

Videos circulating online also showed Doncic taking time to stop and do the same to the fans who patiently waited for him outside their hotel in Pasay City.

“I really appreciate the love. It’s been amazing. So many fans support me,” said Doncic, who is undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions for the Filipinos in the World Cup.

The Mall of Asia crowd rooted for Slovenia in every game while Doncic even received some MVP chants from the lively Filipino crowd.

“It’s been really, really amazing so I really appreciate the love,” he added.

“We had amazing support. Thanks to the fans who supported us, who made us feel like we play at home. I know that it is mostly because of Luka but we’re taking advantage of this,” commented Slovenia head coach Aleksander Sekulic.

Dropping their first two games in Manila, Doncic vowed to treat the crowd with a victory which he delivered in the final game after dropping 29 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
