In his speech during the oathtaking of the second batch of newly-promoted star rank officers of the PNP in Malacañang, the President insisted that there is no room for corruption and abuse of power in the country’s police force and in the government.

“It is imperative that we reiterate our zero tolerance policy for corruption and human rights abuses within the PNP and for that matter, in all of [the] government,” Marcos told PNP officers.

“Sa Bagong Pilipinas na ating itinataguyod, walang puwang para sa hanay ng ating kapulisan ang korapsyon, pang-aabuso sa kapangyarihan, at iba pang katiwalian [at] mga ilegal na gawain (In the new Philippines that we are establishing, there is no room for corruption, abuse of power, and other illegal acts in the police force),” he added.

The President reminded the PNP officials that the foundation of effective law enforcement is “public trust rooted in constant and open public engagement.” “Thus, it is incumbent upon you—our new generals—to prioritize dialogue, collaboration, and cooperation within the communities that you serve,” he said.

Marcos also told them to “nurture a bond of mutual respect and support” with the people who have faith and confidence in the police force.

“As officials, you are responsible for ensuring that all PNP personnel uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and respect for human rights,” Marcos said.

“I also expect that you will lead by example so that every officer and member under your commands will adhere to these same principles,” he added.

The President also assured the police force that the government will continue to pursue the modernization of the PNP and equip them with the latest technology, training, and resources to bolster their capabilities.

“This will enable you to contribute in maintaining peace, which is the backbone of our society’s stability and well-being. Hand in hand, let us lead our nation towards genuine and meaningful transformation,” Marcos said.

“May this milestone in your career inspire you further to lead once more with excellence and honor as you drive the PNP towards a New Philippines that is safer, more just, and more prosperous for every Filipino,” he added.

The 55 promoted PNP officials consist of one Police Lieutenant General, seven Police Major Generals and 47 Police Brigadier Generals. They are the second batch of newly promoted officers to take oath this month.

During the first oath taking ceremony, Marcos also told the PNP that there will be no room for leniency for erring police officers whose acts may tarnish the reputation of the country’s police force.

“Mark my words, there will be no room for leniency for those who engage in acts that tarnish the reputation of our police and jeopardize the safety of our people,” Marcos has said.

“So to our new officers here, I urge you to keep your integrity at all times and remain steadfast in your commitment to public service amidst the many challenges faced by your institutions,” he added.
