RCMP in Prince Edward Island continue to search for a “dangerous” male suspect who injured another person with a sword Friday night, but have lifted an alert for residents of the Seacow Pond area to shelter in place.

The man attacked a 42-year-old woman and a youth, RCMP Cpl. Gavin Moore told CBC Saturday morning. The woman sustained major but non-life threatening injuries. The youth sustained minor injuries. A third person was unharmed.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. RCMP arrived about 10 minutes later, Moore said.

The suspect is described as five feet, 10 inches tall and was last seen wearing a dark surgical mask in the area of Seacow Pond Beach, on the northwestern tip of the island. He may be wearing a green hoodie.

According to Mounties, witnesses reported seeing an individual going through yards in the area. His motivation is unknown.

A police dog and drone are aiding in the search, the RCMP said.

An alerted was issued to cell phones in the immediate area.

“A strong police presence remains in the area as this matter continues to be investigated,” the Mounties said in a Facebook post upon lifting the alert early Saturday morning, adding that investigators had followed up on several tips.

“Police have not received any new information that would maintain the immediacy of the threat to the public,” a post on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Prince Edward Island Facebook page.

The alert was cancelled shortly after 2:45 a.m., though the Mounties have asked residents to continue to keep their doors locked and to “remain vigilant.”
