Calgary police have two people in custody after a shooting that occurred outside the Calgary International Airport that police believe was a result of road rage.

At approximately 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called after reports of shots fired along Airport Road N.E., close to the airport’s cellphone parking lot, a CPS spokesperson told CBC News.

Police said an altercation took place between people in two separate cars, at which point the passengers of both cars got out of their vehicles and shots were fired.

The suspected shooter was quickly taken into custody by police upon arrival, the CPS spokesperson said. Another suspect, who was believed to be involved but did not possess a weapon, attempted to flee the scene but was pursued by police. That person is also in custody.

Two people who sustained minor injuries were transported to hospital, EMS spokesperson Adam Loria told CBC News.

Police said there were multiple witnesses at the scene who watched the incident unfold.

“There is no threat to public safety,” said the CPS spokesperson.

“This is believed to be a targeted incident and occurred outside of the airport. Nothing occurred inside of the airport. The investigation remains ongoing and we are still looking to determine the motive.”
