In a statement issued Monday, Oct 30, the Department of Education (DepEd) reiterated that under the GPAI, personnel can “claim for accidental death or dismemberment” of up to Php100,000.

DepEd added that GPAI also has a medical reimbursement feature for accident-related injuries of up to Php30,000.

“The said policy includes injuries sustained in accidents encountered by covered DepEd personnel both locally and internationally, whether work-related or not,” DepEd said.

Moreover, DepEd noted that 100 percent of the principal sum “will be received by the beneficiaries” of its personnel in case of unprovoked murder or assault.

DepEd reminded that a formal report should include the complete contact details of the claimant/victim, including email address, landline or phone number, contact person, and mailing address, which could be sent to nonmotorclaims@gsis.gov.ph

“The claim should be filed within 60 days of the date of the accident,” DepEd said.

DepEd noted that this policy has been in effect since Oct. 5, 2023.

In her message during the World Teachers’ Day celebration, Vice President and Secretary of Education Sara Z. Duterte noted that this is one of the agency’s initiatives “to show commitment of taking good care” of teachers. — Merlina Hernando-Malipot
