PH scoops 10 golds in Asian Canoe

Also winning gold medals for the Philippines were the pair of Lealyn Baligasa and Kimly Adie Balboa who dominated the women’s open K2 – 1000m; and national team veteran Ojay Fuentes, who emerged as double gold medalist following victories in the men’s open C1 – 500m and men’s open C1 – 200m.

Baligasa took her second gold by winning the women’s open K1 marathon 23km and the rest of the gold production came from Janus Ercilla, who topped the men’s u23 C1 – 200m, Jobert Penaranda (men’s u23 K1 marathon 18.4km) and John Paul Selencio (men’s open C1 marathon 23km).

“We are happy to have participated in this tournament as the year nears its end. It’s a good preparation as we embark on more tournaments next year,” said PCKFF president Leonora Escollante.

“We want our athletes to be fully prepared, especially when we host the world championships in Puerto Princesa next year. We want to have a good showing right before our own countrymen,” Escollante added.

Carla Joy Cabugon contributed three silver medals in the women’s u23 marathon 18.4 km,

Women’s u32 K1 – 1000m and women’s u23 K1 – 200m.

Other silver medalists were Kimly Adie Balboa (women’s open K2 – 5000, 500m and women’s open K1 marathon 23km), Ercilla (men’s u23 C1 – 200m), Fuentes (men’s open C1 marathon 23km), John Paul Selencio (men’s open C1 – 200m) and John Paul Selencio (men’s open C1 – 200m) and Neljohn Fabro (men’s u23 C1 marathon 23km)

Ercilla also bagged the bronze in the men’s u23 K1 marathon 18.4km and Fabro in the men’s u23 C1 – 200m. — Randy Caluag
