UAAP: UE survives Bautista’s OT scoring barrage, takes second straight win

MANILA, Philippines: University of the East (UE) survived Jorick Bautista’s overtime scoring barrage to come away with an 87-86 win over Far Eastern University (FEU) and notched its second straight triumph in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 86 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, November 5.

The Red Warriors seemed to be on their way to a victory but Bautista drilled four treys in the extra period, including three straight triples inside the last 45 seconds, with the last one coming in with 1.5 ticks left to pull the Tamaraws within one, 86-87, after being down by 10 points.

The Tamaraws, however, could not foul any UE player in the final inbound play as the Red Warriors escaped with the win.

UE thus improved to 4-6 for a share of fifth place with the defending champ Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU). FEU, on the other hand, fell to 3-7, good for sixth place.

Rey Remogat starred for the Red Warriors with 34 points on 10-of-19 shooting including 6-of-11 from the three point area. The 5-foot-10 guard also logged eight assists, six rebounds, and three steals albeit he turned the ball over seven times.
