PBMM extends Acorda’s tour of duty as Chief PNP

President Marcos has extended the tour of duty of Police General Benjamin Acorda, Jr. as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Sources said Acorda himself announced the extension during the command conference with top PNP officials at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Monday morning, Dec. 4.

Acorda, Marcos’ second chief PNP, is supposed to retire from the service on Sunday, Dec, 3, when he reached the mandatory retirement age of 56.

In a speech during the kick-off ceremony of the National Human Rights Week at Camp Crame, Acorda expressed gratitude to the President, although he did not specify.

“Before I will proceed I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our President, Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. , I am truly honored and humbled by his continued trust and confidence in my capability,” said Acorda.

Acorda, who was named as the 29th Chief PNP in April this year, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1991. He succeeded Marcos’ first Chief PNP, retired general Rodolfo Azurin, Jr.

Acorda’s extension of tour of duty is expected to be announced by Malacañang on Monday.
