MANILA, Philippines: Before a massive gate attendance of 22,465 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena, the San Beda Red Lions roared and held off the Mapua Cardinals in Game Two, 71-65, on Sunday, December 10 to force a decider in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball Finals.
Jacob Cortez poured 21 points including two triples in the last 4:28 to lead San Beda, which bucked a 6-point third quater performance and woke up in the final canto with a 23-point production.
The last bucket of that big fourth quarter surge was a Yukien Andrada trey that gave the Red Lions a 70-63 advantage with 2:21 left.
Mapua tried but failed to mount a comeback, missing key free throws down the stretch until Peter Alfaro split his charities in the last 8 seconds to ice the game.
