The public hasn’t heard Nora Aunor sing for a long time. Over a decade ago, a botched surgery damaged the superstar’s voice prompting her to rest her vocals indefinitely. In an interview, she even admitted to crying over the loss of her “golden voice.”
In one of the scenes in Pieta, an art film directed by Adolf Alix, Jr., Ate Guy sings an a cappella version of the traditional folk song “Atin Cu Pung Singsing” (I have a ring) from Pampanga.
During a recent special screening at Sine Pop in Cubao, Quezon City, Adolf said that the part where Ate Guy sings a portion of the song is very crucial to the story.
“Despite the challenges, Ate Guy insisted on singing for the film because she understood the importance of the song to her character’s role,” Adolf told the crowd.
Certainly, Noranians will be delighted by the good news brought by the film.
Present at the screening were some cast members, including Gina Alajar, Angeli Bayani, Elora Espano, Tommy Alejandrino, and Tabs Sumulong. Ate Guy, Jaclyn Jose, Alfred Vargas, Bembol Roco, Ina Raymundo, Alan Paule, Carlos Dala, Erlinda Villalobos, and Miggy Jimenez were not present to joint the director and the press to watch the film.
Alfred is also a producer of the film, and according to Direk Adolf, his absence at the special screening was due to being in the hospital, where he was taking care of his wife, Yasmine, who was about to give birth during the time of the film screening. The director explained that Alfred had requested a sneak preview of Pieta for Christmas as a gift to the fans before the regular run, possibly in the first quarter of the 2024, and may also be released on streaming platforms.
Ate Guy was recovering from illness, especially given the flu season. The director expressed that Ate Guy is taking precautions and is expected to make a guest appearance on a GMA show this month.
The story of Pieta revolves around the life of Nora’s character, Rebecca, who is gradually losing her sight and also has Alzheimer’s Disease. This leads to her not recognizing her son Isaac (Alfred) when he returns home after 18 years of imprisonment due to his father’s death. The film promises a surprising twist in its ending.
The audience expected excellence from Ate Guy, Gina, and Jaclyn in the film, and they applauded Counselor Alfred for his new approach to acting witnessed in Pieta. He held his own among the award-winning veteran stars, especially in scenes with Ate Guy, where his “mata-mata” acting alone was a winner.
Directors Adolf and Gina expressed their gratitude for the positive comments received about Pieta from those who had seen it. They emphasized the joy of bringing together such a talented cast for the film, highlighting a memorable scene featuring Nora, Gina, Jaclyn, and Alfred.
