In a statement released on Sunday, Feb. 4, Global Affairs Analyst and RPMD Executive Director Dr. Paul Martinez discussed the “nuanced regional responses” to the leadership of the country’s top two officials.

According to the survey results, although Marcos received an 80 percent performance rating for 2023, the regional responses reflect “varied perceptions” since he received 84.70 percent from Balance Luzon, 79.02 percent from the Visayas region, 75.98 percent from Mindanao, and just 71.72 percent from the National Capital Region (NCR).

The President, however, “enjoyed a robust trust rating of 83 percent, reflecting solid confidence in his leadership across the nation.”

Duterte’s 78 percent rating for 2023 also showed varied responses across regions, with strong rating of 82.86 percent from her home region of Mindanao, followed by 78 percent and 76.77 percent from Balance Luzon and Visayas, respectively. Similar with Marcos, she received the lowest score in NCR with only 70.42 percent.

“These ratings, coupled with a trust score of 80 percent, underscore the diverse regional assessments of her performance,” the statement said.

Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez received a 75 percent and 77 percent satisfaction rating, respectively.

The Senate President also garnered a 78 percent trust rating, while the Speaker scored a 79 percent trust rating.

According to RPMD, Zubiri’s “leadership contributed to the Filipino public’s satisfaction with the Senate of the Philippines” as this was reflected in the 78 percent satisfaction score and 80 percent trust rating that the upper chamber received.

Under Romualdez, the House of Representatives received a 73 percent satisfaction rating and 75 percent trust rating.

“This independent and non-commissioned study delves into the public’s perception of their collective and individual performances, scrutinizing their effectiveness in managing national affairs, executing policy decisions, and upholding their responsibilities,” Martinez said.

Conducted from Dec. 27, 2023 to Jan. 5, 2024, the survey had 10,000 adult respondents across cities and regions, reflecting a demographic proportional to the official voter population.

It has a margin of error of +/-1% and a 95 percent confidence level. — Raymund Antonio
