HD Spikers whip Chameleons, force three-way tie at the helm

Cignal halted Nxled’s last-ditch effort to extend the match and prevailed 25-21, 25-17, 25-21, to forge a three-way logjam at the helm in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City Thursday night, March 17.

Leading 23-10 in the third, the HD Spikers saw the Chameleons launch an eight-point rally before putting a stop en route to their third victory in as many games.

Ces Molina fired 14 points built on 11 kills, two aces and one block while Roselyn Doria chipped in 10 points for Cignal, whose victory tied them with Choco Mucho and Creamline atop the leaderboard.

Gel Cayuna also wound up with 20 excellent sets, outplaying counterpart Kamille Cal, who had 11 sets in the one-hour and 29-minute encounter.

The HD Spikers also exposed the Chameleons’ weak net defense as they pummeled with 48 kills while holding their rivals with a single block.

Only seven players scored for Nxled with Jho Maraguinot managing with 11 points, and Lycha Ebon finishing with nine points.

It was the third straight setback for the Chameleons, who also suffered a big blog with the sidelining of top spiker Ivy Lacsina due to injury. — Kristel Satumbaga-Villar
