Heart Evangelista on fellow celebs joining fashion shows abroad: It’s not a contest

Heart Evangelista sees no problem with other Filipino celebrities now making their presence felt in fashion shows abroad.

She is aware that these show are not exclusively hers.

“People who want to emulate what I’m doing is really cool,” she shared via “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda.” “It’s nice to hear that because it’s not easy to put yourself out there and not play a character but to be yourself.”

She is not worried it would turn into a competition as some have been insinuating.

Heart maintained, “I never thought of it as competitive, it only becomes competitive when you look at it, but when you put it in that sense, I’m competitive with myself. I wanna be a better version every time because I want to better myself. It’s not a contest. It’s a party where people go to celebrate one’s individuality and authenticity. There’s no competition.”

Heart maintained at the beginning she only wanted to be part of these fashion shows mainly because she is “maarte” and “mahilig magbihis.”

She said, “I felt this was the dimension I belonged with. I didn’t really think about whether or not people would come.”

A lot has changed since.

Among them Heart’s glam team.

Consisting of makeup artist Justin Soriano and hairstylist Jeck Aguilar, the team had since been helping Pia Wurtzbach make her mark in fashion shows abroad.

Fans have been pitting Heart and Pia, with their arguments spilling over social media.

Without naming names, Heart shared what she considers her “greatest mistake” in the same interview.

“To trust others too much,” she said. “You cannot trust the most angel-like person that comes, you do not drink the first glass of water someone gives you just because you trust them.”

She went on to share a bit of advice: “You cannot reveal your dreams and aspirations (to these people). You cannot reveal your plans and you cannot give them the map to your success because (these) people will take advantage  of your innocence, sincerity, and heart.”

Heart is confident that her “blueprint” cannot be successfully used by others, though.

She explained, “Because it’s authentically you, this blueprint or map will continuously change as you grow. So somewhere along the way, whoever took this map will lose their way so wala na ‘ko dun.”
