Angel Canino not pro-bound, not pregnant, not failing in acads — mom

MANILA, Philippines: For the record, Angel Canino is not turning professional, not pregnant, and is not failing in her academics.

This is the statement Angel’s mother Sol made amidst the speculations hurled online before and after La Salle’s Thursday’s game against UP in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“She’ll bounce back. She’s not going anywhere, she’s not going pro (pls stop dragging Akari). She’s not pregnant (pls stop dragging anyone). She doesn’t have acads problems and definitely she’s not faking this. She’s hurt and she will recover,” wrote Sol in a Facebook post on Thursday.

“As a mom, I pray that we must be responsible for what we post and comment because somewhere along the way there are people who get hurt. I still believe in kindness so please just please be kind.”

Canino, the league’s reigning MVP, did not play on Thursday but the outside hitter was still wearing her Lady Spikers gear albeit her right arm was heavily wrapped and is on a sling.

After the match where the defending champs Lady Spikers earned a 26-24, 25-19, 24-26, 27-25 triumph over the Fighting Maroons, La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo said that the 20-year-old got her injury in an accident, incurring cuts on her right arm.

According to the TV broadcast report prior to the contest, the accident was a ‘non-volleyball related’ one.

The outside hitter’s playing status in the next games would be day-to-day.

Prior to Thursday’s game, the sophomore Canino played 24 straight games, eight of which in the ongoing Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament where she was averaging 16.3 points per match on top of 5.75 excellent receptions and 4.75 digs
