Marcos appoints Rommel Francisco Marbil as new PNP chief

President Marcos has appointed Police Major General Rommel Francisco Marbil as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Marbil is the 30th chief of the PNP, replacing Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. who ended his term with his retirement on March 31.

His appointment was announced during the change of command and retirement honors for Acorda at the Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame in Quezon City on Monday, April 1.

“Police Major General Rommel Francisco Marbil is designated as the Chief, Philippine National Police effective April 1, 2024 by the direction of President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr.,” Marbil’s appointment stated.

Marbil is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1991.

Before his appointment as PNP chief, Marbil was the head of the Directorate for Comptrollership and served as the Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8), and Director of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), among others.

Before announcing the appointment of Marbil, Marcos had first designated Police Lieutenant General Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta as the officer-in-charge of the police force.

“In the exigency of the service, and to ensure the continuous and effective delivery of service, please be informed that  Police Lieutenant General Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta is designated as concurrent Officer-in-Charge, Office of the Chief, PNP, effective 31 March 2024, until a replacement is appointed or until otherwise directed by this office,” a memorandum signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated. — Betheena Unite
