Eala takes down Aussie to reach third round of French Open qualifiers

MANILA, Philippines – Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala continues to roll in the qualifiers of the French Open, and is just a win away from the singles main draw.

On Wednesday, during the second round of the qualifiers, Eala defeated 30th seed and world number 137 Taylah Preston of Australia in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Eala lost the first set, before rallying back in the second and third sets to beat Preston and continue her journey in the French Open.

As a result, the world number 160 advanced to the third round of the qualifiers, where she is set to face second-seeded Julia Riera of Argentina, who is currently the world number 93.

In the first two rounds of the qualifiers, Riera defeated Natalija Kostić of Serbia (6-0, 6-2) and Harmony Tan of France (6-3, 6-2) before meeting Eala in the third round, which is set for Thursday at 4 p.m. (Philippine time).
