Redo tourism campaign video – senator

SOME senators on Monday expressed dismay over the use of stock video taken in other countries in the promotional campaign used by the Department of Tourism (DoT) to launch its “Love the Philippines” slogan.

Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, said that the DoT should come out with another video.

“They should at the very least redo the campaign video. It seems that the government is at the losing end. We should put a little pride in what we are doing especially if we are selling and marketing the Philippines,” Angara said on Monday.

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel 3rd lamented that the aim was to promote the Philippines as a tourist destination but the content of the promotional video included attractions in Indonesia, Thailand, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.

The DDB, the agency contracted by the DoT to prepare the promotional video, has apologized for the oversight.

“While the use of stock footage in mood videos is standard practice in the industry, the use of foreign stock footage was an unfortunate oversight on our agency’s part. Proper screening and approval processes should have been strictly followed. The use of foreign stock footage in a campaign promoting the Philippines is highly inappropriate, and contradictory to the DOT’s objectives,” DDB said.
