THE Philippine Embassy in Israel has advised Filipinos there to study the map of public shelters (miklat) in Tel Aviv and Jaffa as fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas terrorist groups worsened.
“To our fellowmen in Tel Aviv, learn about the location of the nearest shelter (miklat) in your area,” the embassy said in Filipino.
The embassy on Sunday shared a link of the map of public shelters in different parts of Tel Aviv and Jaffa.
The embassy in a previous advisory “strongly” recommended that all travel from the Philippines to Israel “be postponed indefinitely, or until such time that the situation has stabilized” in view of the volatile security situation in Israel.
“There are a little over 30,000 Filipinos in Israel, according to the records of Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority as of December 2021,” said Department of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Ma. Teresita Daza.
“Remember: if you are outside and hear an alarm, get inside the nearest building immediately or public shelter,” the embassy said.
It added, “If you cannot enter a building or public shelter, immediately lie on the ground and protect your head using your hands.”
The embassy also said that the Ben Gurion International Airport “remains open, and travel from Israel to the Philippines continues.”
“Those with confirmed flights, however, are advised to check with their travel agency for possible flight cancellations,” it added. — Bernadette E. Tamayo
