Michelle Dee among top picks in Miss Universe 2023

THE highly anticipated 72nd Miss Universe competition will be held today, Sunday, November 19 (Manila time), in El Salvador, where 84 delegates from all over the world are vying for the crown to succeed Filipino American R’Bonney Gabriel of the USA.

With the closed-door interview, preliminary competition and national competition staged a couple of days ago, several beauty pageant sites are now ticking off their favorites.

Those who were predicted to win the crown include Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, Karla Inelisse Guilfú Acevedo of Puerto Rico, Anntonia Porsild of Thailand, Maria Brechane of Brazil, Melissa Flores of Mexico and Diana Silva of Venezuela, among others. The Philippines’ own Michelle Dee was also included in the Top 5 and Top 10.

Missosology, the beauty pageant website that covers and analyzes the Big5 — Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth, Miss International and Miss Supranational — as well as other relevant male and female pageants around the world, has revealed its final hot picks.

According to the site, Palacios tops the list as “the most polished, elegant and experienced candidate” compared to the rest based on what their beauty experts have seen so far.

“She walked like a queen on the runway with a perfect combination of élan and fierceness. The biggest question mark, however, is how she fared during closed-door interviews or if her advocacy won the nod of the judges,” Missosology wrote.

In second place is Porsild — the winner of Miss Supranational 2019. The site mentioned the reason she did not make it to the top of the list was because she came off as “heavy and tired” during the preliminary competition.

Despite that, it believes she still has the chance as she is known as a great communicator and has “an enigmatic beauty and has a captivating persona.”

On the other hand, Dee landed third on the site’s list as she displayed “sheer elegance and sophistication” during the preliminaries, a big difference from what she showcased in the earlier parts of the pageant week with her styling and personality, which the site commented as “dry and pale.”

Landing fourth is Acevedo, whom Missosology calls “a divisive figure,” as half of the pageant experts think she’s a Top 5 material, while the other half thinks she failed to deliver her very best during the preliminaries.

Those also included in their Top 10 predictions are South Africa’s Bryoni Govender, Venezuela’s Diana Silva, Colombia’s Camila Avella, Ireland’s Aishah Akorede, Mexico’s Melissa Flores and Brazil’s Maria Brechane.

Meanwhile, the Miss Universe Predictions Facebook page, which currently has 878,000 followers, also revealed its final picks. Topping the chart is Acevedo, followed by Porsild, Silva, Brechane and Palacios as the top 5.

It has also shared the delegates whom it sees as dark horses — Namibia’s Jameela Uiras, Pakistan’s Erica Robin, Costa Rica’s Lisbeth Valverde, Lebanon’s Maya Aboul Hosn, Chile’s Celeste Viel and Ecuador’s Delary Stoffers.

On the other hand, online betting website BetOnline also revealed the Miss Universe 2023 odds, with Puerto Rico’s Acevedo landing the top spot again, followed by Thailand’s Porsild, France’s Diana Leyre, Chile’s Celeste Viel, Mexico’s Flores and Nicaragua’s Palacios. Philippines’ Dee, however, came up short as only Top 14.

With all these candidates going head-to-head, anyone can take home the crowd.

Today, Filipinos can cheer for Dee and watch the competition live and for free via ABS-CBN platforms A2Z Channel 11, Kapamilya Channel, Metro Channel, and iWantTFC.
