The 36-year-old Cleopas, who played for the UPHSD’s men’s team in Season 81 under Altas coach Bai Cristobal, replaced Gerard Dizon who steered the Junior Altas to a 4-5 win-loss record in Season 98.

Cleopas is also the skills, strength and conditioning coach of Converge FiberXers in Philippine Basketball Association and owner of the skills development basketball camp J Hoop Basketball.

On top of the new coach’s agenda in the preseason is to refine the team and improve its defense. He will also try to recruit players who can beef up the roster.

“Praise God for another blessing! I humbly thank my fellow coaches and school management for this great opportunity to be head coaching the UPHSD Juniors Basketball program. Glory to God always! In Jesus name! Amen,” posted Cleopas on his Facebook page on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

Cleopas also serves as assistant coach and conditioning coach of the Altas.

Seeing action for the Junior Altas, who are still looking for their first championship since joining the league in 1985, are Lebron Jhames Daep, Icee Callangan, JD Pagulayan, Kelsea Baldoria, RJ Bernaldez, TJ Tabbuan, Zek Valencia, Dave Panelo, Aron Kress, Arvin Rojas and Amiel Acido, who was named to the NCAA Mythical and Defensive Teams last season.
