24-hour gun ban to be imposed in 3 regions on Marcos SONA

A 24-hour gun ban will be imposed in three regions in the country on July 24, 2023 when President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivers his second State of the Nation Address (SONA), the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Wednesday.

Col. Jean Fajardo, PNP spokesman, said the gun ban in Calabarzon, Central Luzon and the National Capital Region (NCR) will be implemented from 12:01 a.m. on July 24 until 12 midnight, July 25. Calabarzon is Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon.

Only members of the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and other law enforcement agencies who are on duty on that day will be allowed to carry firearms.

Fajardo said this will ensure that the event will be safe and peaceful.

Around 22,000 security personnel will be deployed to secure not only the Batasang Pambansa complex in Quezon City where the President will deliver his SONA but in other areas in Metro Manila as well.

At least 31 entry and exit points will be set up throughout the metropolis as the Philippine National Police (PNP) moved to activate Task Force Manila Shield.

At the Batasan, the PNP will deploy up to 6,000 policemen. Personnel from other government security branches, including the AFP and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), would also be deployed.

Police personnel will also be assigned to secure government offices and various vital installations.
