Macandili scores PVL record 48 digs

DAWN Macandili proved to be an absolute savior for F2 logistics when it came to its floor defense against Cignal in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Center on Saturday, July 1.

The 5-foot-2 libero tallied a 48-of-74 clip (64.8 percent) in excellent digs and 15-of-35 in receptions (42.8 percent), ultimately helping the Cargo Movers seize a 25-20, 30-28, 23-25, 25-22 win over the HD Spikers.

Macandili’s 48 digs is a new professional record in the league.

Good as her performance was, Macandili wasn’t about to take full credit for it. The former La Salle standout said that she managed to do what she did because of the help of the rest of the team.

Macandili also stressed that her teammates’ net defense made it easier for her to do her job.

“We know that Cignal is a patient team and their setter (Gel Cayuna) distributes the ball well so they have a high attacking rate especially in their first game, they really had a lot of attacks so we really studied them,” said Macandili.

“Thankfully, our blocking was superb so it became easy for me defensively. I’m just doing my job. I’m thankful to my teammates because I would have not been able to do what I did if there’s no blocking.”

With the victory, Macandili and the Cargo Movers rose to 2-0 as they share the top spot with the Choco Mucho Flying Titans. They will break their tie in the resumption of the PVL on July 11at the PhilSports Arena.

The PVL is taking a 10-day break to give way to the staging of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in the country.
