As required by law, Suga entered the Korea Army Training Center (KATC) in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province to undergo basic military training for three weeks.

After completing the training, he will resume his duty as a social worker, an alternative form of military service.

According to a post on the KATC website, the three-week basic military training will cover military etiquette, mental training, chemical and biological room, grenades, rifle operation and marksmanship training, shooting, individual combat, 20 km march, character training and  graduation ceremony.

Suga underwent surgery to repair his torn shoulder labrum on Nov. 3, 2020.

Under Korea’s Military Service Act, public duty personnel refers to “persons called up to serve in a field of public interest to support social service duties, administrative duties, etc. related to social welfare, hygiene, medical service, education, culture, environment, safety, etc. or to foster arts and sports, or for international cooperation, which are necessary for the following agencies, etc. serving public interest.”

Big Hit Music, BTS’ agency, confirmed that Suga entered the center for the basic military training.

“Suga started working according to the pre-service system. He entered the training camp today [March 280,” the agency said, according to Korean media outlet Dispatch.

Suga turned 31 last March 9. He will be discharged from the military on June 21, 2025 or after completing 21 months of service.

All members of BTS are currently fulfilling their military service. Jin, who enlisted on Dec. 13, 2022, will be discharged on June 12 this year, the first member of BTS to complete the military service.
