SEC Commissioner Hubert Guevara dies at 56

Newly-appointed Securities and Exchange Commissioner Hubert Dominic B. Guevara passed away today, March 29, 2024, at the age of 56 after being in the hospital for six days.

He was reported to have suffered a cardiac arrest while playing football and was immediately brought to the hospital.

“With great sadness, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announces that Commissioner Hubert Dominic B. Guevara, 56, peacefully passed away today, March 29. He was surrounded by those dearest to him,” announced the SEC.

Atty. Guevara assumed office as a commissioner of the SEC only last March 1. He returned to the Commission after serving as the director of the former Compliance and Enforcement Department from 2006 to 2010.

As commissioner, he supervised the Corporate Governance and Finance Department, Office of the General Accountant, and Financing and Lending Companies Division of the SEC.

Guevara previously served as senior deputy executive secretary under the Office of the President. He also engaged in the private practice of law, serving as the managing partner of the Joaquin Guevara Adarlo & Caoile Law Offices, and taught in private learning institutions, before joining the SEC in 2004.

He earned his law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University, where he also took up his bachelor’s degree in legal management.

“The entire Commission joins the family, friends and other colleagues of Atty. Guevara in remembering and honoring his life dedicated to public service and championing great causes,” said the SEC.
